Strategic Planning
As health information organizations (HIOs) prepare to implement technology to support
the exchange of patient information, it is critical that a strong planning process be employed.
Often organizations do not know where to begin, how to engage stakeholders, and what steps need to
be achieved in order to ensure successful governance, sustainability and outcomes.
AIM has successfully developed strategic and operational plans for numerous organizations. For health
information exchange organizations, such plans have received approval from the Office of the National
Coordinator under the State Health Information Exchange Cooperative Agreement Program. Our understanding
of the requirements and approval process established by ONC through program information notices will afford
future customers the ability to streamline their process and realize plan approval sooner: allowing them to
access funds for their phases of implementation.
We strongly believe that the strategic planning phase is the foundation for sustainable, comprehensive and
meaningful organizations and we have the expertise to make them successful in this process. AIM has helped
numerous start-up organizations establish a strong strategic and operational business plan.
This process includes:
Throughout the process, AIM employs consensus building techniques to foster collaboration among otherwise
competitive stakeholders, thereby advancing their common goal. Moreover, AIM has experience working with key
decision-makers in government and private industry to secure a combination of federal, state and private funds
to develop projects.
